First Day of School

Today was our first day of school.  The kids were super excited and I was anxious.  They were up bright and early and we started school before 7 and they didn't want to take any real breaks.  Because I had been doing a lot of the assessing before today, they were done in about 3 hours.  That was about the point I was losing them.  I know that I will be able to keep their attention longer as the year goes.  We did get through everything I had planned.  Typically, it will take 4 or 5 hours to complete our day.  A typical school day is 7 hours and includes recesses, transition time, lunch, etc.  There is a lot of wasted time.  I plan to cover all of the necessary subjects and then some!  Here is a little look into our first day:

Gavin's Team

It is so hard to keep up with all of Gavin's doctors, so I've decided to keep a page where I can update the latest.  When I'm asked for a list, it will be easier to come up with it.  I know I keep adding pages, but I think this is the only way to organize my blog and my crazy life!

Home Tour ~ Gavin's Room

I let the kids pick out what color they wanted their rooms to be and of course Gavin picked blue.  I also let them pick what color of chalkboard paint they wanted and he picked martian green.  Gavin's room has a superhero theme.  The green mask and chalkboard on the wall are chalkboards.  The couch was one from Grandma Wolf, I just put a sheet over it.  The dresser was Uncle Jeff's, but I painted it in the chalk board paint.  The only furniture we bought in this room was the bunk beds.  He also has a huge closet that I've taken over with storage stuff.  I love how his room turned out!

Make Up and Dress Up

Swimming with Neighbors

We bought this pool at the end of last summer and finally were able to set it up at the end of June.  Avery and CJ were able to swim on the first day.  We've enjoyed many swims in this pool and its really helped the kids get used to going under the water!

Daddy's New Ride

We got a riding lawn mower with the house and Brian is loving it!  He used to hate mowing the grass and that is no longer a problem.  One day he took each kid for a ride and they were thrilled!

Good Bye Sills Family

At the end of June, we had a going away party for the Sills Family.  Drew accepted a job in Colorado and they are moving there this month.  Renee and I started at Holy Spirit the same year and now resigned the same year.  I was teasing her that she had to outdo me...I resigned and moved to the west side, she resigned and moved to the west side of the country!  We had a great time showing off our house and the kids were crazy!  There were 36 people here and 21 were kids!  We took some group pictures for a frame we are giving the Sills family to hang in their new home.  We will miss them and look forward to visiting!  Since it was the first time people saw our new home, I was also spoiled with four bottles of wine.  My friends know me well!

Mitchell Family Farm

Annie made Brian a sign for Christmas last year that said, "Mitchell Family Farm" and that is becoming more and more true every day!  The kids love to call our home and yard a farm and I think it is so cute when they are doing "farm jobs".  I've added another page to the top of the blog to post about things happening on our farm!

My end date for my first 101 is approaching in November.  I'm about 3/4 done, so we shall see!  I also have added some to the Homeschooling page.  School starts next week!!!
