Friday's Letters

I've seen this on Holly's blog for a while now and I wanted to join in, too!

Dear Macie: I love how much you love your little sister, but please leave her alone!  She would like to move without you messing with her or hurting her.

Dear Gavin: Please stop destroying and tearing up everything you touch!  You don't even know your own strength!

Dear Lilah: I can't believe you are 16 months old today!  You are growing up way to fast and don't even act like a baby anymore:(

Dear Brian: Thank you for taking over last night when I crashed.  I'm truly blessed to have you as my partner and best friend!

Dear Bread and Chocolate: Stay away from me for a while.  I've eaten way too much of you lately and pretty soon the scale is going to be mad at me and my clothes aren't going to fit!

Dear Cable: I have to admit, I don't miss you as much as I thought I would.  You were taking over my life and I'm happy to be rid of you!

Roll Recipe and other News

Several people have asked me for the roll recipe I've been using.  I got it from Money Saving Mom and the link is below.  I have to say these rolls are AMAZING and everyone who has tried them has agreed.  I plan to organize all of the recipes on my kitchen blog soon, but that project will probably have to wait until summer.  Just last night, I tried a recipe for homemade bagels from a different blog and they were also a hit!

In other news....
I've completely failed at the Clean House Challenge.  I've done a lot of cleaning and followed along for several of the days, but all of the illnesses and the wedding threw me off.  At this point, I am in survival mode and just trying to get my house back in working order.  I like to stay on top of things so that I don't feel so overwhelmed when I walk in the door.

Gavin is 100% potty trained.  As long as he has his potty seat, he will go anywhere and tells us every time.  Crazily enough, being sick helped the potty training.  One day he pooped literally 20 times and I only had to change his undies once!  That was what he needed to make him really pay attention to his urges.  He is even waking himself up at night now and last night went all night without going once.  We are so proud of him!  We plan to take his potty seat with us everywhere and then this summer, we will train him to go without it in preparation for preschool next year.  Yes...it is hard to believe he will be in preschool next year!

Meeting Felix

Our Godson, Felix Todd, was born on April 3rd very early in the morning.  Unfortunately, we were in the middle of everyone being sick.  We decided to stay clear from them until we were 100% better.  I was so bummed we couldn’t meet him at the hospital, but knew it was for the best!  Sunday afternoon after naps, we headed to the Maurer house.  We brought them mini bbq chicken sandwiches (on home made rolls), potato salad, and chocolate chip peanut butter cookies.  We know how helpful it can be to get a meal when you have a newborn!

The kids played so well together and we were able to visit for about two hours.  We also got some snuggle time in with Felix.  We look forward to watching him grow up and hope to hang out with them again soon!

Macie Quotes

Yesterday, Macie told me that no one would play with her at recess.  Here is the conversation that followed:

Me: Did you ask them to play with you?

Macie: Yes, and they said no.

Me:  Were you being a nice friend?  Kids don’t like to play with someone who isn’t a nice friend.

Macie: Yes

Me: Did you tell your teacher?

Macie: No, I just told God and then played with him and myself

Long Pause…

Macie: Then Madison came out and it was all good.

On the way home from school today, Macie says, “Did you know that heaven is inside us?”  I asked her how she knew that and she said, “Well, Mrs. Wassmer said Jesus is inside us and Jesus is in heaven, so heaven is inside us.”

SUCH A DEEP THINKER!

Congrats Aunt Annie and Uncle Charles

Last Friday night, we went to help finish setting up for the wedding.  We hung out for a bit, had the rehearsal, ate some pizza, and then headed home to rest up for the big day!

On Saturday, Aunt Annie and Uncle Charles got married!  Overall, the day went great!  In the morning, I rushed around and got everything ready.  Aunt Katie even came by for a quick visit.  After lunch, Macie and I left to get our hair done and the others stayed back to nap.  Macie was so excited to get her hair done and was so well behaved.  She sat there perfectly still the whole time!  When we got home, it was time to get everyone dressed.  That was quite an undertaking, but we pulled it off.

Once we got to the church, it was time for pictures.  Overall, the kids did well for the pictures.  The worst part was between the pictures and the actual wedding.  The kids were restless and it was a LONG hour for me!  Lilah was super cranky and clingy all day (turns out she was getting an ear infection).  We decided last minute that I would carry her down the aisle.  When I got to the end, I handed her off to Brian so I could do my job as the matron of honor.  Macie and Gavin did a great job.  Gavin started walking fast and Macie was yelling “slow, slow” to him.  Too cute!  They stayed up there the whole time and did a great job!

The ceremony was beautiful!  After the ceremony, we had to wait for a while before we could be introduced back in.  While we were waiting, the guys stripped down to their super hero shirts for when we were announced in.  We all danced in and it was fun!

The reception was a blast!  Annie and Charles had a fun first dance, Allie and I gave a great toast, and everyone broke it down on the dance floor.  Thankfully, everyone helped clean up so it wasn’t too bad at the end.

My in-laws were kind enough to get a hotel room so that Brian could take the kids to them during the reception.  They planned to keep them all night for us so we could sleep in.  Our plan was to keep them at the reception until around 8, but by 7 they were asking to go to the hotel.  Not only were they excited to go stay there, they found out their cousin, Parker was there, too!  Plus, they were wiped!!  As far as they were concerned, they got to do all of the important stuff…walk down the aisle, eat, cake, and dancing!  The kids ended up staying up until 10pm, but were good the next day.  Thank you so much Grammie and Pops!

Macie wore Gavin’s shirt and I wore Brian’s shirt so we wouldn’t mess up our hair!

First Manicure

In honor of Aunt Annie’s wedding, I decided to give Lilah her first manicure.  As you can see by the picture, she was less than thrilled that we were “restraining” her!  It looked so cute to see the pink on her nails though!

Petting Phoenix

Gavin has been getting braver and braver when it comes to animals.  He has been petting, or attempting to pet, dogs and other animals.  The other night, he wanted to pet Phoenix, our neighbor’s dog.  I’m proud of how brave he is getting and hope that someday Macie won’t be so afraid of animals.

First Ponytail

My poor LJ doesn’t have much hair, but I was able to put her hair in her first ponytail last week.  Too darn cute if you ask me!

First Picnic of the Year

We were able to enjoy our first picnic of the year on the picnic table my dad made for me!  We didn’t get to use it as much last year as I would have liked due to the heat and mosquitos.  Hopefully, we will get to have many more meals out there this year!

Wagon Rides

By Sunday, we needed to get out of the house and it was a beautiful day.  Brian uncovered the kids’ toys and got out the new red wagon the neighbors gave us.  Macie and Gavin had fun pulling each other around the yard and we even took a short walk around the neighborhood.

Dress Up with Lilah

The kids decided to play dress up with Lilah!  She enjoyed it for a while!
