2nd Annual Backyard Campout ~ Catching Lightning Bugs

Late Saturday afternoon, Brian and I decided to set up the tent for a backyard campout.  We’ve been wanting to do it for a while, but haven’t had a chance to fit it in.  The weather wasn’t too hot and they were calling for rain, but it didn’t stop us last time!  The kids and I set most of the stuff up while Brian finished mowing.  Then, we made a dinner of scrambled eggs, creek taters, and toast.  Not exactly camp food, but it worked!  We ate outside and even gave the kids a special drink!  After dinner, we played in the yard and waited for the lightening bugs to come out.  I was hoping and praying we would catch some because we never had before and the kids were pumped up.  Finally around 8, Macie spotted the first one!  Then, we all had fun running around catching them.

It did start sprinkling, so we cleaned up the yard and headed into the tent.  Getting Lilah to sleep was a challenge because she was free and there were fireworks going off in our neighborhood.  Every time she would doze off, one would wake her up.  Finally, everyone was out just in time for it to start pouring.  Thankfully, our tent kept us nice and dry!  Around 3am, Brian took Lilah inside to sleep because she was running around, climbing over us, and kissing us over and over.  Macie, Gavin, and I stayed outside and they slept until 6:30!  We woke up to sunshine.  We had a great campout and look forward to next year!
