Last night, we had our First Annual Backyard Camp out. We bought our tent a few years back, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. The kids were beyond excited, but I don't think they had a clue what was in store for them. Of course, it rained for the majority of our "camp out" but we still had a blast! We started a fire in the fire pit to cook hot dogs and marshmallows for smores. Brian cooked the hot dogs and we ended up eating in the tent. He ran back out to roast the marshmallows and then I made the smores in the tent. We colored, played Hi Hi Cherrio, talked, and laughed. We also let them play in the rain. Macie swang and swang and Gavin went up and down the slide. After that, we changed the kids into pjs and went to sleep. We thought it may be a struggle to get them to sleep, but they were all out before 8:00. Thankfully, the slept all night until 5:15. Lilah got up once to eat and Macie woke up once to complain her pillow was wet. Even though it rained quite a bit, we didn't get too wet and had a great night. After the kids were sound asleep, I snuck out of the tent and got Brian and I an adult beverage and some trail mix. It was fun to just sit and talk (quietly) for a bit before going to sleep ourselves. I'm thankful that we were able to spend so much quality time together. This is something we hope to do every year!
