Gavin's Riley Appointment

On Monday, Gavin had an appointment with Dr. Haggstrom at Riley. Brian wasn't able to come with me because he is saving all of this days for when Lilah comes. Luckily, my mom was off work and came with me. Gavin was such a trooper all day and trust me, it was a LONG day. We left around 7:00 am and his appointment wasn't until noon. We had plenty of time to take a potty break or two, eat lunch, and make it to Indy on time.
Well, we ended up only driving 11 miles in a 2 hour time period so things didn't go exactly as planned. All of a sudden, we saw a police officer on the side of the road waving both arms at us to slow down. We did and came up to stopped traffic. We couldn't figure out what was going on and didn't until our ride home. A semi must have been on fire because we saw the shell and remains on the way home. They sent us off the road and we drove on back country roads forever. We didn't know where we were and it was frustrating. Poor Gavin was stuck in his seat for 5 hours! Thankfully, my mom was able to get out and give him some snacks and entertain him a bit. He had a lunch of animal crackers, fruit snacks, and water. Healthy I know!
We were late for our appointment, but I called on the way there and explained what was going on. They bumped back our appointment an hour and we made it there in plenty of time. After a quick potty break (I had to pee for hours), we headed upstairs. We didn't wait anytime at all and we were seen my Dr. Haggstrom.
Gavin weighed 29 pounds 3 ounces. He was a little unsure about everything and his legs were stiff. In fact, when we got him out to walk, it took him a bit to loosen up. Dr. H took some updated pictures of Gavin, watched him walk, and felt all of this birth marks. His veins are becoming a little more prominent, but overall, everything looked great! She told us that we didn't have to come back for a year unless he has pain in his leg, the veins pop out more, or he starts to favor one leg. One thing that stood out to me was that if Gavin ever complains of leg pain in that leg, we are going to have to take it seriously. We will at least need to have it checked out because it could mean a blood clot.
Dr. H also shared some of the possible treatments as Gavin gets older. She's never really told us what could be done. She mentioned low doses of aspirin, a sock/hose, and injections to shrink the vein. I guess time will tell what he will need.
I wasn't able to make his next appointment because they aren't scheduling that far out, but I will call in a few months.
After the appointment, we got out of Indy and stopped at Steak-n-Shake for a much needed lunch. Then it was a smooth ride home. Gavin didn't even get fussy or anything until close to home. For such a long day and so little of a nap, he did great!!!
