Gavin's Riley Trip Continued

We had a six hour gap between the surgery and his ultrasounds.  We had no idea how long anything would last, so we hadn't made any plans yet.  We decided to go to the mall to waste some time.  On the way there, we found out my Aunt Nancy passed away.  Even though we knew it was coming, it didn't make it any easier.  I actually didn't get emotional at that time because I was still too focused on Gavin.  At the mall, Gavin slept a while in the stroller and we ate lunch.  We walked around a bit, but didn't really buy anything.

We went back to the hospital to hang out in the lobby for a while.  We fed Gavin lunch and let him play with some toys Grandma brought.  They also had some free stuff set up for patients and their families.  We got t-shirts and Gavin got a bag and several craft projects and goodies.  The funny thing is that the t-shirts were for the Saints football team.  They were Super Bowl shirts from when the Saints beat the Colts.  That game was just a week after Gavin was born!

Our last major stop was for the ultrasound.  They did two different ones.  They warned us that it could take a while, but Gavin was SOOO good!  He laid so still and let her do everything.  He only moved a couple of times, so she was able to finish in 45 minutes.  There was a tv for him to watch and Brian and I were able to be there with him.  At first, he didn't want to lay down because he thought something bad was going to happen, but once he realized we were staying, he was fine!  She was so impressed with his behavior, that she went and found a prize for him.  She couldn't get over the fact that he was only two and did so well.  As we were walking down the hall, Gavin was showing off his flashlight.  Two men commented on it and he was quick to tell them he got it because he was good!

When we got back into the lobby, we were surprised to see Uncle Charles.  When he was little, he was a Riley patient, so it was very important for him to come to Riley and buy Gavin a beanie baby.  He got him a Scooby Doo one.  I thought that was so sweet and thoughtful of him.  I felt bad, because we didn't chat long.  We all wanted to get home!

The ride home went well.  We stopped and got some quick food to eat in the car.  Gavin slept and my mom and I dozed as we got close to home.  We dropped my mom off and couldn't wait to get home.  It was close to 8:30 before we were home and settled.  We'd been traveling and crazy for 21 hours!  Gavin, of course, got a second wind.  Brian ended up sleeping on the floor by Gavin's bed so that he would sleep.  Gavin was giddy with excitement and it made me feel better to know that he was close.
